London’s first Gluten Free restaurant

London’s first Gluten Free restaurant

My first experience at the Coeliac / Gluten Free restaurant in Islington. I decided to try the restaurant at a quiet time after work but before the theatre crowd descended upon the small interior. I entered and liked the cosy fee, I had the space to myself for at least 1 hour. I ordered the main course Fish – pan fried Sea Bream with vegetables and for dessert Crumble.

The main looked like a mini piece of artwork on my plate, the portion looked quite small as it was spread across the plate and I was glad that I opted to have dessert.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I like desserts, not just any desserts. They have to be tasty, look good and with a flair of homemade essence. We’re talking Cherry Crumble, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Creme Brulee, it can be very frustrating when eating out you’ve had a tasty meal out with friends. The dessert menu is presented and your favourite is staring right at you, but you know if you indulge you will have a tummy ache for a day of two afterwards whilst the wheat is processed in your intestines. Whilst in the past I have indulged I certainly paid for it later, dining at Niche Restaurant I had no fears. The crumble arrived quickly and slightly overdone if I’m honest. I could taste the slight burnt edges but I didn’t send back. I was asked whether I wanted dairy free or standard custard; I chose the dairy free (yummy).

The Verdict

My overall verdict was thumbs up. The place is quaint and you can just imagine the ambience with a glass or two of wine, enjoying some well made good food. I’m happy that I came across this lovely little dwelling, even though it is a little out of the way it is definitely worth a return visit.
