I once lived in a houseshare that didn’t have any flowers or plants, every now and again I would try and incorporate a plant or two when it was someone’s birthday or I’d add a fresh glass of herbs in the kitchen. Without plants around I would feel sluggish and lack-lustre as the air would feel different – less vibrant. The herbs would unfortunately only last a week or so by the window-sill. When I look back those were my least creative or inspiring days. Why may you ask was it mostly a plant-free house; well the owner didn’t like plants as they felt they attracted or carried spiders. If you are worried about mini spiders, just give your plant a little shake on the leaves before entering your home.
I’ve always tried to surround myself with a plant in two in the living room and the kitchen. The air feels different, more alive and refreshing. It also add a sense of movement and texture to a space. Even those individuals that find it difficult to keep a plant alive can have a choice easy maintenance foliage. There are some very minimal effort plants that require very little watering or ones that make it easier to tell when they require re-watering ie. Peace Lily, also succulents retain a lot of water in their leaves so require far less watering. Another plant which is said to be very hardy is the ZZ plant.
Plants bring a revived energy to a space both inside and outside. Flowers around a space gives a feeling of zest and can brighten up any room. Want to cheer yourself up – go and buy a beautiful bloom or two. Unless you have lots of disposable income, I would suggest buying a houseplant which flowers in order to see some daily bursts of colour. I don’t claim to be an expert in horticulture, what I do know if that flowering plants like windows and light.

I like to keep plants in the living room and around my desk, I feel it helps revive my senses. Plants can help achieve concentration and memory, can also help a home feel more relaxed. When in an office I would often buy a mini plant to keep on my desk to help eliminate the negative ions from the electrical equipment on the desk.
